Submissions and directories: do they still work
A short overview of where these links are useful and where they are pointless, and how to choose good sites.
Sites
Submissions and directories are the cheapest type of link. On their own they won't take a site to the top, but they make the profile more diverse and quickly add new domains.
Where they are useful
- Local business: business directories with a company page, address and phone number
- A new site: first links for fast indexing
- Diluting the profile after buying guest posts
How to spot a good site
- Moderation: listings are checked before publication
- Directory pages show up in search
- No thousands of empty listings without a description
- Niche sections rather than one general feed
TipDon't take hundreds of submissions at once. 10–20 quality sites a month are more useful than 500 automated registrations.
