How to choose anchors for crowd links
The ratio of branded, naked and keyword anchors, examples for an online store and common mistakes.
Practice
An anchor is the text of a link. In crowd marketing it should sound the way a real person would write when recommending a site to a friend.
The basic ratio
- 60% branded: "Mebli Kyiv", "we ordered from Mebli Kyiv"
- 30% naked: the site address, "here", "here's the link"
- 10% keyword: "custom kitchens"
For a new site it's better to lower the keyword share to 5%. For an older site with a large profile you can raise it to 15%, but not higher.
Common mistakes
- The same keyword in every link
- An anchor that doesn't fit the sentence: "buy kitchen kyiv cheap"
- All links point to the homepage
- A keyword anchor in a link to the homepage
TipIn the brief, list 3–5 anchors for each page. Writers will alternate them and work them into the text naturally.
